Description
THIS IS AN ANTIQUE OSCAR SCHMIDT HARP FOR 1884. (possibly 1894) IT FEATURES THE STATUE OF LIBERTY ON THE OUTSIDE. THIS WAS THE YEAR THE STATUE OF LIBERTY WAS STARTED TO BE ERRECTED IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS HARP WAS MADE BEFORE THE ORIGINAL PATTEN IN 1891. THE ADDRESS WAS 87-101 FERRY ST JERSY CITY, NEW JERSEY. THIS HARP HAS THE ORIGINAL STRINGS ON IT. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PICTURES. THE HARP IS ABOUT 19 INCHES LONG BY ABOUT 13 INCHES WIDE AT THE WIDE POINT. THERE IS A CRACK ON THE FRONT AND ALSO CRACKED AT THE BACK. PHOTOS SHOW THE CRACKS. ON THE LEFT SIDE THERE ARE FOUR STRING GROUPINGS FOR CHORDS. TO THE RIGHT ARE DOUBLE STRINGS FOR THE NOTES.The following was received by an ebayer that differs with what I researched. :
Greetings, I don't have a question just some corrections relevant to your description text. The patent date on the label is actually May 27, 1894, not 1884. The patent cited was issued to Freiderich Menzenhauer who was doing business in the US and Germany with Oscar Schmidt. The D. G. M. P. patent is a German patent number. Also, the Oscar Schmidt address "87-101 Ferry St." was first used by them around 1902; their address was different before that. Nice story, but your 1884 description is inaccurate. Just thought you might want to know.
